Cardiff Castle Review
Cardiff Castle has roughly 2000 years of history. The most ancient part of the castle is the old keep in the centre of the castle and this is surrounded by the more modern extensions that made the home for the family. On the guided tour, you will see some of the amazing interior including pictures and other artefacts. The building itself is marvellous and beautiful to look at.
The tour begins on the walls of the castle and goes on into the corner tower. From there you see the rooms that were used by the Bute family. The library and the great hall are very impressive. Although we found our trip thoroughly enjoyable, we felt there were quite a few parts of it we didn’t really see and more could have been covered on the guided tour.
Before or after the tour, you can wander around the rest of the castle at your own speed. The peacocks are usually walking around the great lawn outside of the castle which keeps many people entertained along with some photographers. The big highlight of this attraction is to adventure into the old keep. To get to the old keep, you’ll need to climb up the stone stairs and this is the part of the structure that feels like an ancient fortress rather than a mansion. You get a stunning view of Cardiff from the top too. You can also use this time to go to the shop and cafe on the lower floor of the main castle building.
The Castle is open from 9am to 5pm in winter and 6pm in summer. Adult admission is £12 also concessions are available for children, seniors and students. For information and tickets visit www.cardiffcastle.com
